The fabled painless injection was but once a pipe dream.
It is a quite a wonder that many individuals rather suffer through sleepless nights writhing in pain, rather than visiting their dentist simply because they dread the dental injection.
What if I told you: dental injections could actually be painless? You would be right to be skeptical. Hear me out.
Many assume that the pain from the injection comes from the act of penetrating your oral mucosa with the dental needle. In actuality, the majority of discomfort arises from the buildup of pressure when the local anaesthesia is deposited beneath your oral mucosa. Research has found that a rapid buildup of pressure leads to increased discomfort levels in patients.
Some of you may already see where I’m going with this: if local anaesthesia is deposited extremely slowly, the dreaded dental injection can actually be painless. To achieve this, I use the STA (Single Tooth Anaestheia) System, commonly referred to as The Wand, for my dental injections.
This is a electronic injection system that is suitable for most situations. In addition to reducing discomfort, it also reduces the need for the numbing of an entire side of the lower jaw for treatment on lower posterior teeth. This reduces patient downtime so that patient may eat and speak properly almost immediately after treatment.
